Hello, friends -

It’s that time of year again…it’s The Vargo Family’s 16th Annual Musical Christmas Card!

Every year, Cindi tells me, “You need to do something upbeat. Something poppy. Lots of la la las,” etc. So, this year, we present “La La La, It’s Christmas.” Plenty of “la la las” for you, if that’s your bag…plus a healthy dose of glam rock. Don’t ever let it be said that I don’t follow instructions! Also, thanks to the family for indulging me in a “cringy” skit this year.

Julian (20) is home for the holidays. He’s in his third and final year of undergrad work at UC Berkeley, and will graduate with degrees in Linguistics and Spanish in May. He moved into his own apartment/shoebox in Berkeley this year, and misses his record collection almost as much as he misses his family when he’s away. In other words, he’s a chip off the ol’ block. He flew home just in the nick of time to contribute some lead guitar and vocals.

Paisley (13) is - hard to believe - entering the second half of 8th grade and will be embarking on her high school journey next year. She’s a voracious reader, loves mythology, art, theatre, and playing music. She’s playing baritone in San Elijo Middle School’s Wind Symphony. In January, the band gets to do a cool music workshop at Disneyland, where they sight read a score from a Disney film, which then gets synched to the movie. Oh yeah, and she’s also obsessed with Hamilton and can sing/rap every word of it at this point. Paisley does some singing and plays baritone on the song.

Most importantly, our children are really good, kind hearted people, which I wholly attribute to my wife, Cindi. She does an amazing job organizing schedules, acting as the voice of reason, and keeping us all in line. Anyone who will put up with me for nearly 27 years deserves major accolades…and I’m so grateful that we continue to experience life’s many adventures together.

Me? I keep myself busy with musical pursuits in my spare time (but I reckon you already knew that). We are winding up our fourth season of the Only Three Lads classic alternative music podcast, and the year has found us gaining additional exposure as a part of the wonderful Pantheon Podcasts network, hitting the charts in nearly 50 countries worldwide, and presenting opportunities to feature many notable musicians/heroes who have been a part of my record collection and musical DNA for decades.

From our family to yours, we wish you a joyous holiday season, a very Merry Christmas, the most prosperous of new years, and an abundance of “la la las.”
